My personal opinion has always been that it should be operated by the RAF, and there is no way that they could justify that in the defence budget. Im amazed that the RAF operated it for almost 10 years as a display aircraft, were questions never asked?
That's where a lot of the cash had to go, as civil aircraft it can't be held together with gaffer tape and baler twine...the RAF have no such obligations.
I believe the Vulcan always impressed people wherever it went, including overseas so it would have been a good flag to fly for the RAF in the same vein as the Lancaster. The trouble is PR like that doesn't compute with the bean counters. A lot of this is because it is not a propeller job and I can't see the RAF adding jets the BBMF in the future.
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)

Has anyone realised that the Vulcan and Victor were only built to provide employment in the British aircraft industry after the last war. If Vickers had not had such a full Civil aircraft order book the Valiant and it's derivatives would have been the future of British military aviation. The production version of the B2 was a superior aircraft to the American B1
The British aircraft industry should have been rationalised then but the Government of the time did not have the nerve to do it. They were afraid of the Industry bosses and chickened out
It was a great pity that last flying Valiant was scrapped. At least it did something in it's life.
No idea Richard, I didn't even spot it until I looked at the photo on the editing screen back home.
As the Vulcan was technically displaying for Wyton, I have no idea why one would be up at the time. It certainly didn't pass over Alconbury to get to where it was.
Could be something GA heading into Little Staughton.
