TV Alert 2020

I think most in Scotland realised that Rab C Nesbitt was a very accurate portrayal of many Scots. When it originally went out, the only complaints were from some in Glasgow who thought the area should be portrayed as lots of luvvies in elegant clothes, in expensive coffee bars etc.

Occasionally you get complaints of stereotypes when a programme uses a archetypical drunken Scotsman perhaps in skirt but is OK of course when they portray Englishmen as posh upper class one with posh accents in either grouse shooting tweeds or in 18th Century Redcoats.

I remember being told years ago the "Queen's Margaret Drive" (then the location of the BBC's headquarters in Scotland hated the various very popular series like Hamish MacBeth, Monarch of the Glen, Sutherland's Law etc that were set in the Highlands because they were produced for network and probably financed by network. They wanted lots of raw drama series set in Glasgow tenements - they have a long running soap opera like that but network TV never seem to have shown any interest in showing it.

I think Vital Spark was aimed more at the Scottish audience even if it was shown on network. It was the third of three series with earlier ones using the Para Handy name.
