Allowing for the fact that there is limited film footage available which leads to repetition, there was some bad editing, eg the photo of Lancs flying over snowy mountains, supposedly Norway or Finland en route to the Tirpitz, was in fact the 25/4/45 raid on the Oberslazberg, Tallboy v Grand Slam etc and the 'revelations' were not really as dramatic as was suggested, but a good 90 minutes viewing nonetheless. These veterans really did some remarkable things . . .
I thought it was just me being picky, I laughed out loud at the BBMF Lanc over the Derwent dam, that was, for a good second or two John Nicol's right ear...not acceptable for a modern TV programme.
I really enjoyed it though; if you've read Paul Brickhill's book, then there's nothing new in this programme, but worth digging out on 5 on Demand.
I can't beleive that no-one has mentioned the programme that was on Channel 5 last night from 9pm til 10.40pm about what the Dambusters did next. So now I've got to watch it on my computer.
Enjoyed watching this today as well. The Leonard Cheshire connection interested me as my father was due to be posted to his squadron as ground crew but for some unknown reason the entry on his record is crossed out and he never went.

RAF pilot Stew is about to become a fully fledged member of the Red Arrows. But there’s training to complete first and lots of complicated briefings: “It feels like you’re getting flogged three times a day,” he says cheerfully.
If your heart has ever beaten just that little bit faster as this fantastic, breathtaking aerobatic display team have roared over your head, then you’ll love Inside the Bubble. It’s full of fabulous Top Gun-style inside-the-cockpit footage of twirly-whirly manoeuvres (not the technical term) as the Arrows, blazing coloured smoke, peel and roll.
The pilots themselves are surprisingly relaxed, considering they fly at 400 miles an hour and have to coach themselves not to black out when the G-force is at its most brutal. And they look so good in those red flying suits.
About this programme
The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team - more commonly known as the Red Arrows - is based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire and has taken part in more than 4,500 displays since 1965. This documentary offers an insight into the day-to-day work and lives of the 120-strong team of pilots and ground crew as they prepare to mark the unit's 50th display season, with celebrations reflecting how the Red Arrows remain the public face of the RAF, helping with recruitment and acting as ambassadors for the United Kingdom.
Quite enjoyed watching that. A shame they didn't show their first display appearance when they returned back in the UK though following their training in Cyprus, if only to get the two new pilots thoughts of displaying before a big crowd for the first time. Some great footage though.
