The gate guard at RAF Shawbury Wessex HC.2 XT672 "WC" was replaced on saturday 9-Jan with Wessex HC.2 XR516 marked as 60sqn "V", ficticious marks I believe, as this last flew with 2FTS as "WB". It was marked as 60sqn and displayed in their hangar at Shawbury. XT672 should be returning to Hixon in due course, as the frame was only on loan
Fantastic photos ! Some of the gate guards have great history, ive just found out that the BBMF lancaster PA474 was originally a gate guard at waddington !
Replied by Grp. Capt. Buggernuts on topic Gate Guards
The RAF website has some information on present gate guards. www.raf.mod.uk/organisation/stations.cfm
from this link you can choose a station at the bottom of the selected station page is a link to the station's home page. It is there, after clicking the "About Us" tab at the top of the page that some, not all, have descriptions of their present guardians in the list to the left.
