Originally a Russian transport was mentioned, then it changed to something else, now the latest is that it could be an Airbus - whether that is an A340 or A380, your guess is as good as mine as it sounds as though the film crew keep changing the spec! As for Heyford, who knows, as it was suggested that it could be here or at another unspecified US base.
Is there any hangar in the UK that an A380 could be parked in? Only place I can think of is Heathrow, and will the operator be happy with no fire cover at Heyford?
True, which is why these stories down the rumour grapevine may be completely wrong - it might not be Heyford at all and somewhere else instead......and as for which aircraft - who knows what they will use until someone spots some filming, wherever it may be?
they are filming at Heyford airbase in the next few days. Not sure about any planes landing here as runway is full of cars. they have however spent the last week setting up the old Airbase shop (the one that is not used any more) to look like a supermarket with loads of american cars parked in the parking lot.
My brother works for one of the car companies on the base and they will be moving all the cars off the runway! He also heard about a hangar being used and they have been told its a Russian bomber that's being flown in although I guess this could change.
I too have seen them building the set at the disused supermarket, although I do remember the days it wasn't disused! It's very interesting to see!
would the so called russian plane be the same one thats supposed to be circuit bashing at elvington on the 17th of spetember but we aint sure what is coming

Spoke to my brother to see if there was any further news and they were told yesterday they aren't filming the plane here now I was looking forward to that!
Was it filmed at Squires Gate? I remember seeing a DC3 with Ruskin on the side at the airshow in 81 but AFAIK the series was filmed at Rufforth.
Rufforth certainly was used for the ITV series airline. The tower and NFE store still retain strong traces the, er, "imaginative" camouflage applied for filming. Other venues included Church Fenton (there's a photo of the Station Commander and the actor who played the wartime Station Commander in the 1sr ed of Action Stations 4, p. 52).
