I'm Frank and I stumbled on to this site recently - most impressed
I'm interested in many aspects of aviation and live in the Scottisn Borders - not too many disused airfields here but there are a couple of interesting ones - Winfield, Millfield & Charterhall
Previously lived up in East Lothian close by East Fortune, Drem & Lennoxlove.
I'm regressing in my interests and currently looking at First World War Airfields in Southern Scotland - such as Penston , Gullane, Raploch and the like and becoming fascinated by lighter than air - but most interetsed in Post WWII - Cold War RAF, RN & USAF
Just to introduce myself. I have, like many people here, a lifelong interest in aviation and in particular WWII aircraft and their operational environment, and the men (and women) who flew them. Airfields are an intrinsic part of this - machines too, in their own way.
So, I will probably be asking lots of questions, some dumb, and hopefully some not so dumb, and if I can add any material knowledge to the debates I will gladly do so. (I have a head full of details - some useful, and many useless, but what the heck...) And many years ago I got a PPL and hunted down older aircraft to fly - succeeded sometimes.
Welcome to AiX Shearwater, you can ask as many questions as you like - none are treated as dumb. Thats what this forum is all about, information exchange so fire away and someone on here will do their best find the right answer.
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
