Hi, I joined the site today after it being brought to my attention by REF.
My name is Paul and I live in Guildford, as a teenager I live in a place called Send which was on the Wisley circuit. Almost daily we had BAC One-Eleven G-AYSD flying overhead at 700Ft. I didn't appreciate the noise at the time, but I would love to hear it again now. My primary airfield interest is the history of Wisley But I have a passing interest on others.
I am a Licensed Aircraft Engineer by trade and hold or have held certification privileges on One-Elevens, B747 Classic & 400, B757, DC10, Airbus A300, 310,320/21, & A343/6. I'm office based these days by they let me out occasionally to work outstations and taxi 747 & A340's.
My other interests are British steam locomotives, post war British aviation & US space-flight up to the end of the Apollo program.
I did hold a PPL until the wife & kids came along.
Well I think that is me done.
Paul
I should have added I have a small Wisley site that I inherited from the guy who set it up as a MSN group
Hi Paul, another Paul here. I see that you are from Guildford. Would you know anything about a Halifax crash-site memorial at Worplesdon?? I first learned of this from Flypast magazine about 1988. I've searched for it on two occasions but no-one seems to know a thing about it !! Crashed near to the church one chap told me, but hadn't heard of any memorial..... Any information would be grateful.
Hi VC10, That was very quick !! Many thanks for the information, next chance I get to visit the area hopefully i'll take some photographs of this long sought after memorial. Thanks.
Hello to all, and I hope my title does not make anyone cringe LOL. I am an American who was smart enough to marry a fantastic British lady and come to England to live. I am a former USAF staff sergeant with 11 years of active service, so Air Force, be it American or British, is near and dear to my heart. I am in love with the Spitfire Mk1, and no other plane will ever turn my head. I love history, mostly ancient, but also will from time to time explore modern history as well. I have written 76 poems, and am working on five novels (none actively at the moment), I am also working on getting into a one year course of study to qualify me to teach English at the secondary school level, with my sights trained on becoming a headmaster as soon as I can after some teaching experience under my belt. If you want to know more, ask me!
