Hi

I've just registered on this fascinating forum, i've not been to many airfields in my time but i recently visited Swinderby for the antiques fair but forgot my camera!

I live in London & have a WWII air raid shelter in my back garden!

Welcome to the forum. We won't mention forgetting the camera :)

I see many air raid shelters from the train windows on my daily commute. Surprising how mnay are still around, especially Andersons, which you would have thought would have rusted away by now!

Hope you enjoy the forum.

Went to Swinderby and forgot the camera. Hmmm

Here is a picture of the shelter, an unusual brick built shelter with a reinforced concrete roof, part of the original bed frame is still in situ

Swinderby was fascinating as i was there just before demolition but i felt a right prat when i went to reach for the camera.......

OoH a posh one! A neighbour who adjoined the bottom of our garden use to hav a large brick built one with a blast wall in front. Gret to play in as it was completely empty and very dark.

Just thought I'd pop in here and say "Hello". My interest in disused airfields dates back to a childhood living near one and being educated on the site of one and also many years spent rallying on them. Thought it would be good to try learn a bit more about them.

Welcome to the forum.

So, apart from living near one, being educated on the site of one and many years spent rallying on them, what have airfields done for you :)

Peter
