I am a Civillian Instructor for the Bracknell ATC, thought it would be a good idea to join this group as we have quite a few cadets interested in Airfield history. In August two other C.I's and myself will be taking a group of cadets down to Davidstow Moor for four days all armed with plans and cameras and hopefully by the end of the trip they should be able to visualise what it would have looked back in the 1940's
Welcome on board 2211 Squadron - you've signed on at an interesting time and we'd be delighted to see the results of your trip to Davidstow Moor posted here - hope the weather hold up for you!
Perhaps you could do me a small favour while you're down there. If anyone happens to have a decent gps unit with a mark facility to hand I'd be very grateful if you could jot down a few lat/long positions to accompany any individual buildings or features. (preferably decimal format - but D:M:S OK)
Only need a few to play with in a GIS package, but the more the merrier - if it's not possible not to worry.
Hello to everyone, I have been browsing through your excellent forum for some time now and hopefully I may be able to add ,at some point, to the discussions. My main interests are of Lincolnshire airfields but I am starting to travel further afield to see what is out there!!!!! My knowledge of Lincolnshire bases is not too bad so it may come in useful in the future , Thanks, PC.
Unfortunately they seem to be taking more and more up , I think the price of an acre of wheat/ taties / rape is worth more than a piece of redundant concrete:(, such a shame though!!! As long as there are a dedicated few that are willing to chronicle whats left, we can keep memories alive !! Thanks for the welcome. PC.
