Depends what you mean by comfortable driving distance! RAF Upwood may be an option. 1hour straight up the M11
Hi
I noticed that there was some help that had been given to someone trying to find a hangar for rent. We wondered can anyone assist us with an unusual request. We are looking to part use a hangar or have someone go into partnership with us on a business venture if they have a hangar that is not currently being completely utilized. The hangar would need to have a forklift available and be ideally around 15m if possible on one of the dimensions either width or length. If you have a hangar or know someone who has one who would like to earn some extra cash by utilizing it more can you get them to contact me please on

I have just joined because of some current research I was doing. This relates to my fathers RAF career during WWII and just after. I have his flight log book and some pictures but not much more. He qualified as a flight engineer in May 44 on Halifax III's and his course was at RAF St Athan. He then went to 1666 Heavy Conversion Unit at Wombleton (I assume) for hands on aircraft training. He went operational with 415 Squadron RCAF at Eastmoor in Aug until the end of Sept 44 . The next entries in his log are in April 45 at No 1652 Conversion Unit at Marston Moor. There was then a brief stay during June July 45 at O.R.T.U Matching. Finally he served with 190 Squadron at Great Dunmow from July to Oct (last entry 27th Oct) 45.
I am interested in finding information about these places especially Eastmoor. Naturally I am willing to share what information I have with others.
Other than the above I have been an aeronautical fan for many years. During my career as an Electronic System Engineer I worked on both Military and Civilian air systems. The last 10 or 15 years were in designing Air Traffic Control Systems for NATS and many other ATC organisations in countries around the world. I have also for many years had Flight Simulation as a significant hobby. On this front I am naturally interested in information relating to current airports.
I have been retired now for some years and so am happily able to pursue my interests which are varied.
Welcome to the forum MichaelGW. Hopefully you've found the thread on East Moor in the Yorkshire airfields section. We look forward to any input you have, and between us try and answer any queries you have.
