Hello Everybody, I am Black Shuck from deepest Darkest Norfolk. I am very interested in the American Airfields that are very prevalent in my neck of the woods. Also Fighter Command like R.A.F West Raynham, not a million miles from me. Hope to hear from any of you who have a similar interest or info about the Flixton Buckeroos. Cheers.
Welcome Black Shuck! I'm a Brit who emigrated to the USA in '92 and have only been on this forum for a couple of months. I have little knowledge of the finer details of airfields unlike some on here who can not only tell you how many bricks went into building a 'C-type hangar' but can probably tell you the exact width of an NCO's latrine on an expansion era class A airfield!
My only contributions are limited to little bits of trivia and anecdotes culled from 70 years of life that started before war was declared (that's WW2!), a few years in the Air training Corps 1225 squadron while I was at St Austell Grammar school in Cornwall and a few opportunities to have flights in aircraft types that not many will experience now. Lancaster, Shackletons MK 1 and 2, Anson, Hastings, Chipmunk, Cherokee, Twin Otter seaplane, lots of commercial jets and a Pitts Special (including inverted flight-Wow!). Oh yeh, and a Link trainer at St Eval which of course never left the ground! Not too shabby really for someone who turned down a commission in the RAF in 1959 which I later regretted and was not required to do my two years National Service as I was still at college and NS ended in 1960.
Hello Black Shuck! Welcome to the forums. We hope there's something on here which you will find of interest and useful. Feel free to post away - any question and so on, someone will have what you're looking for.
Being a "newbie" isn't a problem - no-one on here vilifies or has a go at people who post questions so dig in! It's a community of interest and everyone is very friendly.
Cheers,
Chris
