Thanks for the great welcome everyone!. I do not profess to know everything about airfields but I am extremely interested in the East Anglian connection during the Second World War especially from a Norfolk point of view. I am most intersted in the American 8th and the many B24 Airfields around my home, and recognise what a massive sacrifice the brave Airmen made for the good of our country. Does anyone know whether there were many Liberator missions from any of the Norfolk airfields like R.A.F Flixton or Matlaske, West Raynham etc.....
Matlaske was a figher airfield mainly RAF
West Raynham was RAF
Flixton was officially known as Bungay though I don't know how many missions were flown from there
Anyway, from one East Anglian to another - hope you enjoy the forum

B-24 Missions would have been numerous. If you go to this website www.446bg.com/missions.html
you can read about the missions of the 446th Bomb Group ("Bungay Buckaroos") who were based at Bungay(Flixton) from 1943 to 1945.

Hi All
I have occasionally popped in here to look at threads before but never got round to joining.
I am an ex RAF (1970-83) aircraft technician, still work on a/c and have always had an interest in airfields (esp minor ones)
Since having to change jobs approx 9 yrs ago I have not had the time/energy to walk airfields like I used to,but if I drive anywhere I usually find an excuse to at least 'drive by'
