I notice that the one in the Isle of Man shows the wwi dates as 1914-1918, most have 1914-1919. And I was at Niagara Falls and I was suprised that the war memorial there has three flags. The Canadian, Ontario and the Union Flag.

The Union Flag will always be part of a Royal Canadian Legion colour party, order of precidence being Maple Leaf, Union Flag, Provincial flag, Legion Standard. There is also provision for including the UN flag and in some instances the US flag.

The ceasefire was 11 November 1918, which required the German forces to evacuate their positions and return to Germany, leaving their artillery and other heavy weapons behind. After that a peace treaty was thrashed out over a six month period at the Paris Peace Conference. It was finally signed by the victorious powers at Versailles on 28 June 1919 between Germany and the Allies. Germany and Austria were given the choice of accepting it or continuing the war. I think that is why most memorials have 1919 as the end date, as technically it was the end of WWI

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
