You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

You think whats happened in Prestbury is bad? In the last 7 years the memorial in Blackpool has had a woman urinate on it, and before that an Iraqi Kurd how shall I put it politely? Pleasured himself on it.

I have never understood why vandals are not asked to directly pay for the damage thay cause. Now idea where fines go but I doubt it will be to help victims. Village stocks - now there's a detterent.

The money from fines goes directly to the Treasury, and at the last count there was over a billion quids worth of uncollected fines. In whats known as POCAS(proceeds of crime hearings) a Judge can direct that the money goes to the police. In a case where vandalism has occured then the Judge can order compensation to be paid.

And in the Lancashire Evening Post its been announced that the Cenotaph in Preston (and it does bear quite a similarity to the one in Whitehall) is to get an £800,000 makeover.

Speen National War Memorial today. Speen is just outside Newbury along the A4 towards Hungerford.
