An iconic airframe, but one that the majority of aviation minded Americans know little of, or care even little for. The Engineering base for technical support only exists in this country, If it did fly to the USA it might carry out a few flights before being consigned to a museum as a static exhibit. There is another static Vulcan in the USA and the future of that is precarius to say the least.
The heart was in the right place getting this arcraft airborne again, The economic climate to operate such a beast was not. RIP XH558, in a few years you will be saucepans I fear.
There are I think 3 Vulcans on static display in the states.
Personally I have always said that this venture could only be carried out by a group funded by an airline, or the RAF. And of course there is no way the RAF could justify flying the Vulcan any longer, Im amazed he bearded one hasnt stepped in.
Incidently they are doing a Vulcan tour thing. It's called a 24 hour scramble and they are trying to get a couple of guys in the TVOC Subaru to visit all the UK airframes in a 24 hour period. They are starting in Scotland I think next Sunday at 00:01 hrs.
It's probably fortunate (for them) that Blackpool no longer have a Vulcan or they probably wouldn't make it.
I'm going to go to Newark to show my support if anyone fancies coming along?
A bloke bought the Vulcan at Blackpool and was going to have it in his pub garden!
Yeah but then he tried to sell it. He wanted it moved, but the AA wouldn't help him.
It was consigned to the scrap man last year and is now probably a baked bean can. I know the one at Woodford has been butchered by TVOC and there was talk that that one was next for the crusher.
If any of you ever get chance to goto Newark in the summer they let you in the Vulcan there and operate the landing and nav lights, bomb doors etc.
