I would say that North Yorkshire is most likely for all scenes. Anyone know what months it was filmed in in 45? Brief Encounter had all the railway scenes shot at Carnforth in March 45 to avoid the blackout regs which were still in force in the London area. I would guess that "the way to the stars" would have been filmed in North Yorkshire to reduce the chance of an Jerries tryin to interrupt filming.

The B-17 Group had a P in a triangle on the fin and this was the 384th BG at Grafton Underwood, assuming a real markings were used.

RAF Hurricanes (56 OTU?), Bristol Blenheims II, Douglas Bostons and Avro Ansons. 8th Air Force Boeing B-17G's. This footage was shot at the 8th base of Grafton-Underwood with the 384 BG, during April-May 1945. (The only WWII "movie" footage shot by Hollywood with an actual combat unit)

IMDB says that Leeming was also used, runway. Possibly, but not Leeming's WWII tower

The mimic in the control room is unlike any of the airfields mentioned above. Possibly a red herring. It's similar to Wymeswold.
The CT balcony at 1.24.05 is the big clue. Three windows at the front and the nearside one extends round the side. I haven't a clue! Doesn't look like www.controltowers.co.uk/C/Catterick.htm

The Hurricanes were from 56OTU and 1695 Bomber (Defence) Training Flight (RCAF) based at RAF Dalton. The Blenheim IIs are most likely Finnish Air Force. The 384th BG had just come off missions to Germany and made up most of the B-17 footage in the film, these scenes being filmed in April and May 1945. The B-17F was Hell's Angels of the 358th Bombardment Squadron at Molesworth (the first to complete 25 missions).
