August Bank holiday Monday at Dinton Fete (Bucks) a Dakota was going to do a flypast, as it was very overcast with rain (Very fine) this was of-course cancelled it's usually a good event and about 1.200 people were there despite the poor weather, we took a brief look then went to the nearest pub
Not really surprised with this news when I heard about it earlier today. Still gutting though. I suppose due to the nature of the bases's operations it is just never going to be a suitable venue anymore.
I'd be amazed if they can or will hold the show at Scampton beyond 2017 though as they are stating.
I thought it was a bit suspicious when I heard that the Yorkshire Airshow where planning to hold their airshow next year on the very same dates as Waddo would normally be held. Those dates where ruumored for a while & now confirmed last weekend.
Here's a few highlights from the 2015 season that I got to see -

Sad to hear but it was unfortunately, always going to happen. They were looking for an excuse to get rid of the show. Scampton will be nowhere near as good, especially for photography as you'll be shooting into the sun most of the day, still, the freeloaders will enjoy being on the wrong side to get their photos.
Really bad decisions again, well done Waddington and well done RAF/MoD.........
I bet a pound to a pinch that the Scampton show won't happen. To me it's just a ruse to placate us. Closer to the time, they'll be some guff about being "short staffed" or maybe "too dangerous to turn in off the A15 or "a FOD hazard" or "no room for vintage jets to crash"
The ex MQ residents put in a noise-abatement order maybe.
Well that's the end of another era and one we looked forward to every year for ages. Always a brilliant day out and always cheaper to get in. We would go on the Friday after work to our B+B at Sleaford, go into town for a few beers, kebab then bed. Saturday airshow later back into town few more beers etc go home Sunday. What a lovely weekend.
Im willing to bet the Scampton DOES go ahead. And is shooting in to the sun so bad??? Leuchars was a south facing display, I never noticed a problem.
We pretty much shot into the sun at Waddo.
If this is to be a problem at Scampton then I assume that spectators are going to be placed to the north of the runway?
The last show I attended at Scampton spectators and parking were on the south side.
We were parked up by the north eastern end to the south of the runway.
I had heard from relatives that live in Sleaford that Lincs police were not happy with the traffic from the Waddington show blocking up the A15.
I don't see Scampton as being any different. From memory there is only a small lane running to the north of the base but good enough I guess to get us all out if the show is to be held on that side.
I suppose putting spectators on the north of the airfield gets around the problem of the yoghurt knitting politically correct brigade all running around having seizures over a certain grave.
Something that I for one would love to photograph again as after the last show my film got lost in the post on return from processing!
What is it with Lincs police? The airshow has been running since 95! I dont know of any airshow location where there isnt a problem with the roads, even Leuchars which has a mainline railway station nearby still has a problem with the roads.
Sorry to say I believe none of the top brass police want to get involved in any such events- look how they kicked and screamed over the event at Prestwick the other week ; Mind that is police Scotland a leaderless bunch that has lost its way;
