I had no idea that this site existed until I 'browsed' in this morning.
I've been a visitor and wanderer of old airfields since 1977 and have been saddened over the years by their inexorable destruction. My first one ever was Little Walden and I ignored Len Deighton's famous advice - and climbed the stairs to the ( then derelict ) control tower. Hooked on the atmosphere for life....
I'm mainly interested in the bombers - and have visited many 8th Air Force and Bomber Command sites over the years. I look forward to checking in here.
Hi Martin and welcome along to the forum.
Lots of very interseting things to see on here and a great wealth of knowledge shared by all on here so any questions you might have im sure you will find the answer on here.
Enjoy
Yes, I've amassed a few photos over the years ; I'll try to dig out one or two and place them where appropriate in the Forum. I used to be a member of the ARG, but I'll confess that my main interest is to try to capture the 'atmosphere' of a place - not always easy when there are just a few pieces of Air Ministry Concrete left lying around.
And it does hurt to think of those wonderful runway vistas which could be seen in the late 70s ( such as Bungay and Lavenham ) which have now gone.
Just a quick introduction! I started flying at Finningley in 1991 and have never stopped! The aeroplane that I made my first flight in, was WD390 - Chipmunk Tmk1 - now at Wickenby in private ownership.
I like to take aerial photos of disused airfields (and active) whenever I happen to whizz over one, and my particular interest is in the 1930's expansion period. I have lots of pics and just keep adding to them (both from the ground and in the air - mainly aerial)!
Hope to use the forum to find out bits and bobs when I see things I don't understand or want to know what is happening - eg are there any hangars left at Watton - doesn't look like it to me when I was there yesterday!
Look forward to speaking to all of you guys!

P.S. Is it easy to attach pics - the file size limit seems to preclude any decent photos?
Welcome to the forum. The aerial pics would be most welcome.
A lot of people use something like Photobucket to upload then add to posts using the image tags and url supplied by the host site. I tend to use attachments for smaller images.
