I'm a third-generation aviation enthusiast and a postgraduate student of Archaeology. Pleased to meet you. I'm currently working on an investigation into the former RAF Darley Moor, in Derbyshire, which is how I came upon this site. I'm hoping the postings herein will help me with the background information and, although I'm a bit green at the moment, one day I might be able to help somebody else in return. It's always nice to meet new people, especially when they share a long-standing interest (did somebody say obsession?). I look forward to getting to know everybody.
If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the Universe.
I look forward to seeing specifics of your research into RAF Darley Moor. Although there are published histories of DM and its neighbour Ashbourne, any details that you can find, especially extant remains, will be welcome on AiX.
At the moment, for me, I would tend towards the word "obsession". You can confirm this with a quick glance at the Fuel Depots and Bombing ranges threads

Hi all i live on the old airfield at Gosfield Essex. If any of you people want to know anything or look at anything on the old base please contact me and i will do my best to help you. Any one wanting to visit the base please let me know and i will be happy to show you round. I will be posting photos over the next few weeks of the base under the Gosfield airfield part of this site so keep your eyes peeled. My main hobby is going onto other airfields and digging up there rubbish dumps so i will allso be posting photos of that.
Hi ive been there twice once on my own and another time with REF and NJR on here. It would be nice to go there again.
Have you got a decent image of the painting on the water tank over there?
Hi,
No is the straight answer because its not all that old i remember it being done about 15/18 years ago so iv allways just not bothered with it. I can soon get one for the forum because it is very well done and quite a good memorial to the 410th.
Hello,
Are you the chap who has his office in the old control tower?
If you are, then you showed Jim C and myself around about three or four years ago. I was going to ask about the Pratt & Whitney R2800 engine from the P-47 Thunderbolt that lays on the airfield. I lost the details of the aircraft and pilot that you gave us!
Oh...and Welcome to the forum:)
No that was a chap called Clive i reckon. I live on a farm where the admin and mess site used to be. The tower has been changed now the owner modenized it this summer and it is all offices now. Iv been told the painting up the stairs has been done away with im hopeing this is not true such a shame if its gone.
