Hope you will enjoy the book. You will find an account of the accident to the Martin Baker MB3 on page 48 and a super photo of it at Wing on page 49. My father was at Wing when this lovely little plane was being tested but I don't recall him ever mentioning it.

Pauline.
Thanks again Pauline, really am very grateful. Looking forward to reading the book. I still cant believe that I cycled past this site numerous times when I was a nipper in the 70s and didn't even realise.
I believe that they also have a post on the third London airport proposal that generated a lot of activity at the time.
Miss Pinchbeck had moved to the village of Cublington during the early 1940's to escape the London bombing and left some time in the late 1950's.
Dave.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the link.
I have vague recollections of the Cublington protests when I was about four or five and seeing banners and posters all over the neighbouring villages and being dragged along on protest marches. My mum is 83 and remembers the protests and the genuine fears of the local residents that their little piece of rural paradise in Buckinghamshire came very close to being a noisy, concrete jungle. Fascinating piece of history which I am really looking forward to researching.

I believe that they erected a plaque at the copse on the corner of the Dunton & Stewkley roads to record this piece of local history.
I remember that some of the more volatile protest elements were tooling up for serious insurrection that thankfully was never deployed.
A colleague of mine worked at the garage in Wing during 1977 and they looked after the Bentley owned by a someone on the hill at Mentmore.
