Hi Mik j,
I am based in Cheshire and researching US Forces 1943-1944, If you could indicate what unit your father served in, I might be able to help. I must tell you that there were a very large number of US Army and US Army Air Force personnel in the county, at a large number of camps, many infantry and armoured units under canvas for several months. Locally to me we had consecutively both the 79th and 80th Divisions from April through August 1944, and General Patton's HQ, and the HQ of VIII Corps. That's just for starters. Over to you for moredefinition. Help may follow!.
Welcome - if you haven't already seen it my Tarrant Page has links to download excerpts from some of the original ORBs~ dorset.hampshireairfields.co.uk/tar.html
I've been interested in historic aviation, but more importantly the men, the buildings, the atmosphere, since very young.
My main interest is WW2 Bomber Command and my second interest model making.
Very interested in what survives today and being able to capture that in photographs and plastic.
Hi Ted, welcome to the forum. Seems like you have the right ingredients for joining. Look forward to any photographs you may have to show, airfields or models.
Welcome. Where are you in Hants? ...I was born and lived in Christchurch from 1942 till 5 yrs ago(now in Dorset since they shifted the county line). Do you know about my Hampshire Airfields website? www.hampshireairfields.co.uk/
