Good evening all, thought it was high time to introduce myself. I joined the RAF as a Fireman in 1981 and served till 2004. I love anything to do with the RAF and love researching old airfields as I believe we should keep the history of them all alive. These forums are just fantastic and there are some fantastic info etc..... many thanks for letting me be a part of it all.
Cheers
Paul AKA Reggie Metcalfe:-)
Hi REG sure I have heard that name before MNnnn let me think LOL
I live inbetween Arbroath and Montrose, Angus, Scotland.
Always had military interests due to family but in the last 2 years, have cottoned onto, passion for, old world war 2 airfields - BIG STYLE!
AiX has been the culprit for carrying on this passion!
I want to thank all of the contributors to this website and the legends that exist here. The information, experience and knowledge here...........is mind blowing!....................thank you all.
Such passion, experience, knowledge is mind blowing and will help me progress in my quest for researching, conserving such monumenal sites.
Enough from me - once again, thank you for such a wealth of information. I hope to post where I can, learn from you guys n gals, contribute photo's of worth.
Sadly there is no counselling for our addiction Welcome to the forum and good to see you have an historic airfield on you patch. My specialty is bombing ranges, and I can blame AiX for that. Your are contains three, in case you are interested, Montrose Basin (quadrants were on the north bank but no sign of them today), Lunan Bay Air to Ground Range (supposedly had a bombing target but no confirmation it was ever built) and Rumness (a late war range for the Fleet Air Arm).

I guess many an hour lost on this site - as so much to view, learn about and vist!
I'm about 5-10 mins walk down a track and end up on southern end of lunan bay. Soooooo, my question is, tell me more about Lunan Bay Bombing Target (or have I just broken my first rule of posting this thread?)
I will check out NCAP website, as you've mentioned.
There is nothing to see today that I can determine. The NCAP website has some oblique's from 1941/2 that show the markers shelter very well. You will have to subscribe to zoon in closer but the free to view frames show the rough locations. It may also be marked on a 1950's map.
There is no wartime or early post-war coverage of Lunan Bay at present on NCAP so I can't be sure what was going on with the bombing and R/P (rocket projectile) targets. Many charts show what was intended as they were not produced that often and sometimes they show ranges than never happened. Aerial coverage can be fickle too as a specific target could have been laid out, used and then removed in between photographic sorties.
If you do find anything please add it to the Lunan thread, and even if you don't. There may be some spent rounds on the beach but as it was little use for air to ground this may prove difficult.
Hope this and the Lunan thread is of some use.

My name is Yassine ,I'm working as Airfield Ground Lighting service engineer at Dubai Airport.
I found this forum by a simple search in Google, the forum is interesting and I hope exchange information and share experience with the others members about airfield lighting in all plans.
Welcome to AiX Yassine, I think you are our only Gulf located member. Lighting is an importatant component of airfield and aircraft operation and the World War 2 military airfields of Great Britain helped lead development of the modern systems. Are there any interesting units at Dubai International?
