Coast to Coast my son did that aged 10 with his mum (not in one day off course). If you cycle up to Alconbury, I will gladly show you around! Welcome to AiX!
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
Alconbury from Loughborough might be too far for that day but will keep it in mind as drive past Alconbury most weeks!
took 3 days Whitehaven to Sunderland for 10 mainly overweight railway guys to cycle the Coast2Coast!! lol
I spent part of my teenage years(1950s) in So'ton and frequently cycled down to Pompey to visit the airfield and also the docks on Navy Days> Now in Torquay but I maintain the Hampshire Airfields website.
I moved to Lincolnshire 2 years ago but have been visiting the area for 6 years and North Witham for 4 years. My main interests are WW2 history, british airfields and aviation photography. As mentioned in a post on North Witham, I am active in WW2/1940s re-enactment circles and portray 101st Airborne (Easy Co and 101 Pathfinders) and British Para.
My nearest base is Folkingham and regularly walk by the base ( and yes, the stories of the grumpy landowner are true!).
My favourite airfield is North Witham which I visit regularly and I pass by RAF Coleby Grange and Waddington twice a day to and from work.
I love to learn new things about our aviation heritage and enjoy photographing our historic places. Hope to be a regular contributor and look forward to chatting to you all.
