I was idly browsing the web and came across your fascinating site. Having browsed a few of the threads, I thought I may be able to assist with information sought by another poster so I registered.
I came to live in Lincolnshire over thirty years ago, and being a keen walker and dog owner with an interest in old airfields, I set about wandering over as many as I could with my faithful hound. (It's a sad indictment of attitudes that treats a dog walker with bonhommie, but a lone walker as a pariah!) Anyway, over the years there are few Lincolnshire airfields which have not been sniffed, tramped and err...watered.
Now retired and sadly dogless, I now tend to restrict my airfield explorations to cycling on the public roads as access is now more difficult due to development and a perceived unwillingness of landowners to facilitate. (It's the 'elf an' safety intruding again!).
Nevertheless, your superb site will keep my curiosities satisified for a while yet.
Welcome to the forum. I never got the chance to explore Lincolnshire that much in the early 70s. Out of range for my bike and a bit far for a day trip on the old motorbike.
Did manage to see Cranwell, Coleby and Scampton though before I crashed on my motorbike. It was good to watch the Vulcans being towed out in the early morning mist.

Hi everyone, please bear with me im new to all this ! Abit about me. I can clearly remember (even though i was only 3) what got me into all this, what has now become almost an obsession started in 1982 at RAF Finningly air show. My family does have a history with the RAF to this day so perhaps its in my blood ! Back to 1982 at Finningly and the vulcan is performing its stunning display after a full power vulcan scramble take off, leaving a 3 year old boy gobsmacked ! The sheer power, size, noise and manovability of that wonderfull piece of british engineering has stayed with me ever since ! And now hopefully my own sons can witness the the vulcan "howl" themselves. Around the same time my grandparents bought a caravan in sunny bridlington, cue every school holiday spent there, and it was brilliant ! Everyday you would see everything from A10s to F1-11s to Tornados to buccaneers ! I saw that many i made a chart of what i saw ! Of course this was the cold war, and it wasnt untill the cold war was over that i realised why i was seeing all these different aircraft. Of course the vulcan was one of the center pieces of this, and this fuelled my interest further. Now along with airfield history, this is my favourite subject. Hope i havent bored you too much, feel free to message me.
If there is anything you need to know or anything in general please feel free to message me or failing that one of the moderators who i might say know far morwe than myself.

Welcome to the forum...lucky man living in Lincolnshire.
My visits to the area have been fleeting living as I do down in the far Southwest.
I do hope you do not intend to remain dogless...but in case you do ...here is a picture of my 10 year old labradoodle "Trufflington" on the Haldon/Teignmouth aerodrome site last year in the snow.
