They look exollent Paul. I wish i had the skills to create to images like that .:-)

Ta Bomber.

I must admit the B-29 isn't mine, I downloaded it from the SketchUp warehouse, but I did have to rescale it and add the RAF markings and tweak a few minor bits.
The polished metal effect is done in Kerythea, using one of the built-in tutorials and the very simple point-and-click system of adding colours and materials.
The final render then had the colours desaturated in Paintshop to tone everything down a bit.

All the best,
PB

I've been having a play, 2 Wellingtons outside the B1 at Desborough.

I got the Wellingtons from 3d warehouse & the hangar is one of PB models.

The start of another Thor-related model, to build a C-Type hangar converted to a Thor RIM Building, you've gotta start with a standard C-Type...

Basic construction in SketchUp using the current MoD drawings for reference*, rendered with Kerythea to see how it looks.
Annexes and other fittings still to be added, then I can start with the RIM conversion. I think I'll leave the roof off, as that is incidental to the job in hand.

* There seems to be something drastically wrong with some of the metricated dimensions in the MoD drawings, as they don't add up correctly... what fun.
They also leave out some fairly important items too, or just skip over them while going into great detail on something trivial alongside.

No more than 6 in total spread over the weekend, as there are only a few distinct components that the framework is assembled from. :)

Not that much really.

There are only two main patterns of truss section, one being a modification of the other, and all are built from standard steel sections (imported from SU Warehouse).
The truss braces are all the same, again from standard steel sections with tie plates, and the end frames are the same steels as the truss lower sections.
All this sits on only three types of columns and wall sections, and there are two types of windows, each built up from standard 2-pane panels with a regular frame around them.

I was shocked when the whole thing came in at under half a meg for the basic structure, add in the doors and runners it may go up a little but that's only another five basic components repeated. :)

It'd definitely be a shame to put a roof on it...:-D
