TB huts are so much simpler to construct than Nissens.
This one took less than an hour from scratch, including the roof trusses. ;)

I gave up put proper corrugated sheets on my huts while it looks nice & is correct it does as Paul said strain the processor & make the files a lot larger, most of my buildings are for placing on an airfield model so I simplify them the keep file sizes down.

I had to break my Desborough model up into individual sites because it got so huge.

That looks fantastic Paul.

I do a lot of 3D modelling using 3D Studio Max for computer game software and the occasional architectural visualisation. I've been pondering making a proper virtual representation of a dispersed site going all out with the realism rendering but haven't had access to the drawings to make the buildings. Maybe it's something we could collaborate on?

I first began using SketchUp to create a "Virtual Deenethorpe", as a tool for the 401BG Veterans to orientate themselves and to locate where pictures from the group's photo archive were taken.
Unfortunately, as detail increases so does file size, and SketchUp files don't seem to migrate easily into other formats.

A parallel project, using MS Flight Simulator X, has been more successful and a dedicated console was bult for the 2010 group reunion and I believe has since been donated to the 8AF Museum in Savannah GA. Here's a quick screenshot:

I've been hoping there was a way to combine my work into the relatively easily-navigable MS Flight Sim environment, but it doesn't seem to be possible directly.
Having said that, the basic construction work is the same, so I'm sure something could be done.

All the best,
PB

Update:
It IS possible to export SketchUp (.skp) models in .3ds format, but usually only with the paid-for Pro version.
However, there seem to be a number of free workarounds that I'll have a go at and report back if successful.

3DS Studio Max can import Sketchup files but only for earlier versions (up to 7) I think. 3DS is a rubbish format to be honest, FBX/DAE would be ideal or OBJ at a push...

It's been ages since I made any models for MS Flight Sim X. I used to love landing the Horsa at Brize in that :)

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite
