As well as aircraft, Leuchars has(or had) a Bofors gun and a Rapier fire unit.

St Mawgan had a Scimitar tank (opposite the Shackleton) which 1 sqn Regiment brought with them, apparently it was the first allied vehicle into Kuwait at the start of Gulf War 1.

St Athan had a Phantom because that's where the major servicing of the type was carried out, also the then CO was an ex Phanton chap and that's why XV500 was re serialled as 'XV498'.
As the station didn't have based squadrons as such it fell to finding an aircraft with other links, I'm trying to track down a Harrier GR.3 at the moment, but see St Athan thread as to why that will probably come to nothing.
I have heard that Neatishead has a Phantom in respect to both the stations', and aircrafts', role in UK air defence.

Thanks for that MM, I forgot that the serviceing was done at St Athan!!

Poor old you! Might have been quicker to drive a three-tonner from Stafford to Wittering than it was to get to Gutersloh.

Mentioning Swanwick, the old LATCC based at RAF West Drayton, had a Lightning Mk2 as a gate guard, I have been informed it is in 92 Sqdn colours. When back home, I shall post it up. In the meanwhile, you can see it at RAFBinbrook.co.uk.

And Black Mike too. Does anyone know whether this aircraft is still in existence?
