I spent many an hour staring at WS807 from the guard hut. Shortly before the Radar Unit closed towards the end of 1992 it was sold with the intention of getting it flying again. Subsequently it was found that the fuselage was out of true, bent of twisted I'm not sure which. I believe the markings were inaccurate for the airframe.
Does anyone have a photograph of the Westland Whirlwind helicopter which was the gate guardian at Waterbeach, before the Hunter, ie before 1989? Anyone know its serial number & subsequent fate?
Here is Llanbedr,s Gate Guard, Llan 1, which i believe was a rebuild by Llanbedrs ground crew and flew on active service, before being retired to the gate,

The reason for posting the former gate guard is, the tie down anchors have appeared again against the plinth for the first time in 8 years it may be possible that the Jindivik opposite at the 2445 ATC Sqn may again cross the road and be displayed on the gate when the airfield finally becomes operational again, may be wishful thinking though

Welcome to AiX, oh ancient one. The Stafford Javelin - is that the one that in 1967 was perched outside my window when I went to the Youth Selection Centre, and which ended up on the main gate at West Raynham - in 85 Sqn markings?
